ENDANGERED The Karner Blue butterfly was first identified by Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov, who was also an entomologist. He was fascinated by the tiny blue insect and descibed it in great detail in one of his novels. Because the Karner Blue is completely dependent on wild lupine (a kind of plant) it is extinct in some places and endangered in others, mostly due to habitat loss. |
