How big is the largest alligator? Is the shark or the orca the top predator of the ocean? What animals are endangered or extinct from your state? The NATURE'S BOUNTY program is filled with animal facts, audience participation and fun games. Dru wrote the book series under pen name A. D. Tarbox. To her events she brings animal specimens so the children can get up close and see the adaptations creatures use to survive in their environment. Using photographs and film footage, Dru shows animals in their habitats and the things she does for research. Dru has tracked coyotes, filmed with her son a wild bobcat, swam with dolphins and sea lions, scuba dived with exotic fish, sting rays, sea snakes and sharks. She likes to take children behind the scenes of her publishers and show them how her books were made and highlights what a wildlife photographer does to get the stunning photos.

Dru Hunter wrote ALREADY ASLEEP under pen name A. D. Tarbox. As part of the ALREADY ASLEEP program, Dru shows some of her ALREADY ASLEEP book on a screen. The audience helps Dru find the cat and mouse hidden in each scene and learns about illustrator, Julie Olson's techniques. Dru also brings a cat puppet and mouse puppet to help. The author plays an animal game, and geography game with the kids. The power point show reveals how a book is made, from the author's desk, the illustrator's techniques, and what happened to ALREADY ASLEEP at the printer.

DRU HUNTER PROGRAMS

CAPTAIN OF THE DRAGON
Pirates! Play pirate games such as Trial and Hazard with author Dru Hunter and watch a visual presentation of famous pirates, their tactics and weapons. CAPTAIN OF THE DRAGON is based on a real 1830's pirate teenager, Nicola Costa, and other historical facts such as there is a documented case where a ship of pirates was captured and the youngest was 8 years old, the eldest 20, much like the crew in the novel. Hold pieces of eight and gold doubloons, treasure that every pirate wanted. Most pirates did not bury their treasure but spent their money as soon as they got it, however, Nicola's crew actually did bury theirs. Act out a scene from Dru's novel and have a swashbuckling good time!

Dru Hunter combines all her programs or focuses more on one depending on the audience when she visits libraries, schools, and other organizations. She also goes to many bookstores for booksignings. In her programs, Dru explains to children how science, math, history and the other subjects she learned in school, and later in college, apply to her writing and filmmaking. And she loves to answer questions. Email her by clicking the link in the right column if you would like to learn more or schedule an event.
